Archive for February, 2012

Gospel singing may not be up your alley but if you appreciate amazing singing, you have to check out Robert Robinson.  I saw Robert perform in A Burial at Thebes and he blew the crowd away and really stole the show.  Robert has been voted the best male voalist in the Twin Cities previously by City Pages.  GO GO GO see this show!  It’s free and you’ll really be impressed.  You can listen to some of his music online but you lose the power of his voice when it’s not live.

Worlds of Improvisation proudly presents the acclaimed vocalist Robert Robinson, who will give a performance illustrating the improvisational principles of Gospel singing, followed by an interactive seminar session in which he will discuss the development of his improvisational conceptions and respond to questions from audience members.

This satirical, non-violent demonstration of new sketches and songs is certain to deliver 99% laughter (and 1% rage) in a time when it is most needed. At a time when almost all of us are unhappy about something, the Brave New Workshop steps up to inject its civilly disobedient comedy into our changing world.

Although I post a decent amount of athletic themed posts, it takes quite a bit to get me to run.  I absolutely hate it and much prefer a workout that doesn’t feel like a workout.  The AV Club just posted an article about the upcoming Run for Your Lives zombie infested obstacle course and this event is definitely for someone like me, who needs a little motivation.  Just see this video below and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The “race” is June 2, 2012.  Registration is now open.  If you register by February 29, you’ll save a few bucks.  It’s a pricey run at $67 but definitely unique and noteworthy.  If you’d like to register as a zombie, it’s $25 (includes a variety of perks).  There will also be an after party and camping is available.  If you just can’t swing the registration fee but wish to participate, they are seeking volunteers for this event.  Volunteers will receive free camping, snacks and water, free admittance to the Apocalypse Party and a Run for Your Lives volunteer t-shirt.

As a side note, the race takes place in Millville, MN, about an hour and a half southeast of the Twin Cities.

Esquire Magazine named Al’s Breakfast of Minneapolis the best place to get a pancake in America!

They’ve appeared on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, E!’s Talk Soup, and favored thousands of patrons with their holiday hit, “A Stocking Full of Awesome,” and now The Danger Committee is back, turning its attention to matters of the heart—and other vulnerable organs. This world class trio (noted for their stellar sell-out performances at the Renaissance Festival) combines Danger Committee classics with some all new stunts to create a family-friendly show that will have something for everyone—whether you love juggling, knife throwing, or just plain laughing yourself silly. Every show followed by a Q&A with Reynaldo, Bald Guy and Other One and special post-show happy hour specials.

Brave New Workshop would like to give one winner two FREE tickets to the March 3 performance at 7pm ($50 value)!  To enter this contest, comment on this Facebook link.  One winner will be randomly selected on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Noon.  You can also receive one extra contest entry for “sharing” the Facebook post.
