sprouting kale

Join master gardener Edith Renick from Bachman’s as she demonstrates the “winter sowing” method. Winter sowing is an easy germination process that starts many seedlings for just pennies. During the winter, you sow seeds into mini-greenhouses made from recyclables (milk jugs, plastic pop bottles, etc.). After sowing, place the mini-greenhouses outside to wait for the end of winter. The seeds will begin to germinate on their own time as the weather warms.
