Volunteer and make a park beautiful

The National Park Service is restoring the land surrounding Coldwater Spring to create oak savanna, prairie, and wetland habitats. This site is located between Minnehaha Falls Regional Park and Historic Fort Snelling. Volunteers will plant trees and wetland plants, and will help with other restoration activities. NPS rangers will offer public tours in the afternoon from 1pm-4pm to celebrate the park’s opening. This event is part of National Public Lands Day, sponsored by REI, the National Park Service and its nonprofit partner the Mississippi River Fund. Started in 1994, National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. This keeps the promise of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the “tree army” that worked from 1933-42 to preserve and protect America’s natural heritage. Service project from 9am-12pm, registration begins at 8:30am. Free lunch from 12pm-1pm with an informal “Backyard Session” by representatives from Leave No Trace. The National Park Service will also be giving public tours of the site from 1-4pm.

Register here (no registration is required for the afternoon tours).  Volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt.
