Memorial Day Weekend = The Memory Lanes annual Block Party! This free, outdoor event is perfect for celebrating the start of summer.  Click here for a detailed performance schedule.  Music runs 3pm-2am daily.

Explore the night sky with a short talk of approximately 20 minutes followed by a Q&A at the University of St. Thomas. Afterward, visitors are welcome to tour the observatory and, if weather permits, there will be observing.

Join Mayor Chris Coleman and the City of Saint Paul at an outdoor musical concert Tuesday evening immediately following Governor Dayton’s signing of the Freedom to Marry Bill at approximately 6 p.m. In celebration of this historic legislation, Ecolab Plaza will become a venue for the “Love is Law” concert, featuring some of Minnesota’s best local music Tuesday evening. The Minnesota Freedom Band will lead a procession from the Capitol lawn to downtown Saint Paul. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

Musical guests include: Minnesota Freedom Band, Jack Brass Band, DJ Jake Rudh, H$B, Zoo Animal, P.O.S, Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus, Chan Poling and Friends (The Suburbs)

Bring your children, bring your mom! Come see the Daffodil Society of Minnesota’s Spring Show with over 600 daffodil blooms in all sizes, shapes and colors. Yes, daffodils come in combinations of white, yellow, pink, orange and almost red. It is a judged competitive show of cut blooms, and daffodil photography will also be displayed. Non-members are invited to exhibit—bring some daffodil blooms from your yard. Special opportunities for kids to enter. Family friendly.

Art-A-Whirl

Art-A-Whirl is a highly anticipated annual event that welcomes local and regional visitors to Northeast Minneapolis to see the art being made in this area and to meet the artists.  This free event features 500 artists including potters, tile makers, painters, sculptors, musicians, photographers, glass blowers, printmakers, and textile designers. They showcase their art in warehouses, galleries, homes, storefronts and cafes.

As visitors come to see the art over the three-day weekend they also experience the unique and welcoming community of Northeast Minneapolis.

Be sure to start your day with a visit to one of the welcome booths at the California Building, Casket Arts Buliding, Keg House, Northrup King Building and the Thorp Building for maps and information.  Maps can also be downloaded by clicking this link.

The Minnesota Bonsai Society Mother’s Day Bonsai Show is a unique opportunity to see privately owned bonsai.  Bonsai are ‘trees in pots’ and are an ancient art form from Japan that blends artistic vision and horticultural expertise.  Each bonsai represents nature in miniature and creates appreciation for the aesthetic of great age and rugged form.

University Symphony Orchestra: Wagner Birthday Bash!

The University Symphony Orchestra honors the 200th birthday of Richard Wagner. From Tannhäuser, the Overture and Venusberg music, followed by the impetuous and arch-romantic Act I of Die Walküre (John De Haan, tenor). With commentary and analysis by SOM professor Matthew Bribitzer-Stull.
