Goldstar is offering a limited number of tickets for $0 + $8.50 service fee (Reg. $36) to Fierce/Feminine: Dance by Women Choreographers at the Cowles Center.  This is a great opportunity to see professional dance on a “movie ticket budget.”

Minnesota Dance Theatre shines the spotlight on a trio of female choreographers with a program of bold, breathtaking works entitled Fierce/Feminine: Dance by Women Choreographers. Rising star Emery LeCrone returns to MDT for her second choreographic commission. Nuanced, ingenious and fresh from the stage at just 26, LeCrone contributes several works to the show, including a world premiere. Joanie Smith, 2012 Sage Award recipient for Outstanding Choreography, brings her international reputation for “virtuosity, substance, craft, and pure abandonment” to the repertory performance. And Minnesota Dance Theatre founder Loyce Houlton, after 34 years of creating, teaching and producing dance, is renowned for her Nutcracker Fantasy. She’s also one of the first American women to gain international recognition through her distinct aesthetic and a lasting legacy of trademark repertory. Featured in the show is Knoxville, Summer of 1915, one of Houlton’s own personal favorites.

72% off tickets: I Puritani

Today only, Goldstar is offering $7 tickets to I PuritaniA Minimalist Production of Vincenzo Bellini’s Opera at The Cowles Center for this Friday and Sunday (Reg. $25).

Vincenzo Bellini’s last opera I Puritani is perhaps his most brilliant and sophisticated bel canto masterpiece. The plot concerns the love affair of Puritan Elvira and the Royalist Lord Arturo Talbot during the English Civil War of the 1640s. But as battles rage outside and within the castle walls, the would-be bride becomes unhinged by the chaos and scheming. Bellini’s glorious music has a mood of romantic melancholy that brings the story and characters to life with melodies and vocal fireworks, and his sumptuous opera even has a happy ending. Produced with minimal sets, costumes or staging, this performance is sung in Italian with English surtitles.

Goldstar is offering super discounted tickets to this weekend’s performances of  La Cathedrale Engloutie and Ancient Air at the Cowles Center for Dance.  Choose from Saturday evening and Sunday matinee times.  Tickets are free + a $7 service fee (Reg. $26).

As part of its 50th Anniversary season, Minnesota Dance Theatre presents a repertory concert featuring the regional premiere of master choreographer Jirí Kylián’s La Cathedrale Engloutie (The Sunken Cathedral), with music by Claude Debussy mixed with the sounds of waves breaking on a shore. This wild quartet for two men and two women showcases the flexibility, concentration and strength of the dancers, as they clash in a confrontation between control and free will. The evening also includes a restaging of Loyce Houlton’s Ancient Air, with music by George Crumb (including a cycle of songs on texts by Garcia Lorca), and the reprise of Lise Houlton’s playful Point of Departure, set to music by Franz Joseph Haydn.
