Ballet on the Block

The Third Place Gallery and Saint Paul Ballet are pleased to announce their first ever collaboration, “Ballet On The Block,” an evening event on Saturday, July 18 in South Minneapolis.

This event will bring ballet to the Bryant, Bancroft, Central, and Powderhorn Park neighborhoods through an outdoor community event involving professional ballet dancers, African drums and a cellist. Community members are invited to join in the festivities which will include dance, music, and newspaper tutu-making.

At 6pm on Saturday, July 18, Ballet On The Block will begin from four locations, one for each of these neighborhoods. Community members can choose to join in at one of the following locations:

• Lake Street and Chicago Avenue
• 42nd Street and Chicago Avenue
• 38th Street and Bloomington Avenue
• 38th Street and Third Avenue

Two dancers from Saint Paul Ballet will be waiting to lead their groups to our common destination at Pillsbury House Theatre’s “Wish Well,” located at the corner of

Chicago Avenue and 35th Street. At Pillsbury House, Saint Paul Ballet dancers will perform original, interactive choreography accompanied with live music performed by the African-based movement Earthshake World Rhythm Ensemble, and cellist Adam Stiber.

From there, community members are invited to join the dancers and musicians as they parade down Chicago Avenue to The Third Place Gallery, just three blocks away. Refreshments will be provided.

Come one, come all. Ballet On The Block is our way of bridging communities through the experience of dance.
