The 7th Annual Groundbreaker Battle

This celebration of Hip Hop artistry and community takes place right next to The Cowles Center, adjacent to Target Field and Target Center. Over 20 breaking crews, consisting of dancers young and old, face off in this daylong breaking competition. The event, which is entirely free for all participants and open to the public, features B-boys and B-girls from the Twin Cities and throughout the Midwest.

With some of the Twin Cities most established breaking crews competing, this event spotlights the talents of our local B-boys and B-girls.

Groundbreaker Battle is now the longest running breaking (break dancing) battle in Minneapolis/St. Paul and boasts significant cash prizes for the top three crews. In addition to the competition, The Cowles Center hosts educational workshops and panels at the event, focusing on breaking fundamentals, beat boxing, and the history of Hip Hop locally and globally.
