Today’s Voice daily deal is $10 for $20 to spend at Soul Food Heaven – named best soul food restaurant of 2012 by City Pages!  This restaurant seems like a well kept secret, they do not have a webpage and there are no reviews on Yelp!  I’m guessing this restaurant is a little hole in the wall where all the attention is paid to the food.  Until I try it, however, I’m just speculating!

The menu at Soul Food Heaven reads as a who’s who of comfort eats including chicken wings and the loaded “Gangster” fries to start followed by Philly cheese steaks, authentic gyros or a Juicy Lucy. The favorite and behemoth of a sandwich known as the “Gangster Burger” takes on a new flavor profile with mounds of gyro meat, but it is not to be outdone by classics like the smothered chicken, tender pork chops and fried catfish. The sides also bring their A game with options like collard greens, mac and cheese, red beans and rice, fried okra, potato salad and more. If you’re not convinced you should entrust turning your crummiest days around to this joint, its 2012 City Pages Best of the Twin Cities Award for Best Soul Food Restaurant should change your mind.
