REVIEW: How to Swear Like a Minnesotan

I had the pleasure of attending How to Swear Like a Minnesotan this weekend at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater.  This Minnesota Fringe hit features local comedian Joseph Scrimshaw and “explores the edgy side of the mild Midwest with jokes and stories about his youth in Brainerd and North Minneapolis; tales of hipster Paul Bunyan; erotic Betty Crocker fan fiction, and more.”

The show is a finely tailored and perfected stand-up comedy routine.  As one might expect, there is a decent amount of cursing but it’s not used as a crutch.  The audience was a lot more diverse than I expected.  There were white-haired seniors, the college crowd and everyone in between.  Everyone got a good laugh because the subject matter (Minnesota’s quirks) are relatable to all that live here.  My favorite part of the routine was where Scrimshaw attempted to “break-up” with Minnesota snow.  How to Swear Like a Minnesotan is a hit show for good reason, it’s quality comedy that every resident will appreciate.  I strongly recommend you see it.

Last March, this show sold out its run so don’t delay in purchasing tickets if you want to see it.
