REVIEW: Tortilleria La Perla
You’ll find Torilleria La Perla in the Mercado Central market on Lake Street in Minneapolis. Stepping into Mercado Central is like stepping into Mexico and I don’t think that’s at all an overstatement. The lack of English may be unnerving to some but I think the atmosphere simply adds to the experience. Head over to the food court area and you’ll find Torilleria La Perla. Torilleria La Perla offers a small number of items including different kinds of tostadas ($2-3), tamales, chips and soups (either Corn Hominy or Tripe). I did not have the guts to try the tripe soup but it appeared to be the crowd favorite amongst those at the food court. Torilleria La Perla also offers Mexican sodas for a little over a buck. All in all, this is a great place to grab a bite of authentic mexican food without spending a lot of money. Click here to see a menu, however, the prices are a little outdated.
If you cook a your own Mexican food, also note that La Perla sells freshly made tortillas and chips at the Mercado Central location. Tortillera La Perla has 250 restaurants on their customer list so you know they are good! I think once you go Torilleria La Perla, Ortega grocery store products will never again be an option. You can also purchase La Perla products at Mississipi Market. A bag of fresh tortilla chips is only about $2.
If you’re passionate about great Mexican food – this is a local business you need to check out.
