Free screening: Tony & Janina’s American Wedding

Tony & Janina’s American Wedding is a feature length documentary that explores the broken U.S. immigration system. After 18 years in America, Tony and Janina Wasilewski’s family is separated when Janina is deported back to Poland, taking their six-year-old son with her. This fresh perspective on immigration is a study of personal honor, the fight for one’s country and self, and the struggle to not be broken or defeated. The film is a complex exploration of patriotism and hope, even as our outdated immigration laws undermine their family and dismantle the business they had worked hard to build.

A free screening of this critically acclaimed documentary film is hosted by The Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM), with underwriting from The Minneapolis Foundation. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on immigration reform with award winning director and producer Ruth Leitman, ILCM Executive Director John Keller, Minneapolis School Board Member Alberto Monserrate, and a Minnesota family who has a similar journey to the family profiled in the film. A reception will follow catered by the Riverview Café and Wine Bar.

Admission is free; however, donations will be accepted and matched by the Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation. All proceeds will go to ILCM’s continued provision of immigration- related legal services to Minnesota families.
