Fun, food and tours at the American Swedish Institute

The public is invited to the American Swedish Institute (ASI) for a weekend of fun, food, and free tours! Join us as we fire up the grill, tap the keg, and stoke the bonfire, all on the lawn of the historic Turnblad Mansion.

The Open House is being held to celebrate the American Swedish Institute’s selection as one of 25 historic sites in the Twin Cities competing for $1 million in preservation grants from Partners in Preservation. Voting is happening daily at facebook.com/PartnersinPreservation through October 12.

ASI will be serving Swedish-style organic hot dogs, cold tap beer from Surly Brewing, Cask wines from Vinocopia, and delicious coffees from Tiny Footprint Coffee. Bring the kids and grandkids for a jump in our Jumping Castle, listen to the melodic jazz of the Travis Anderson Trio (Sun. 5–7 p.m.), and enjoy a roaring bonfire on what’s sure to be a beautiful fall weekend.

See what’s new in the Museum Shop and get a sneak peak at some of the renovations underway. Free tours of select spaces in the Mansion will be available all weekend long. Don’t miss your chance to see the historic kitchen, which is normally closed to the public, and learn how your votes can help us win funds to renovate it.

This two-day event runs 10 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 and noon–8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. The event is free and open to all*, with proceeds from food and beverage sales benefiting the programmatic and outreach activities of the American Swedish Institute.

*Due to construction, the ASI campus is not currently wheelchair accessible. For information regarding accessibility issues, please contact ASI at 612-871-4907
