REVIEW: AXIS Dance Company

AXIS Dance Company is known for innovative dance performed by dancers with and without disabilities. Although I believe the concept is well worth exploring, I was ultimately underwhelmed by last night’s performance. To me, the pieces were flat and lacked any sort of progression or crescendo. It is my opinion that the show is better suited for a venue a quarter the size of the Ordway. The company is small and movements are subtle. It seemed to me the performance was engulfed by the large Ordway theater (and perhaps my mezzanine seats were also less than ideal for such a show that strives to be an intimate conversation about movement and ability).

AXIS Dance Company was only here for one night in St. Paul.  Click for a list of upcoming Target Dance series performances at the Ordway.  It’s my experience that the Target(r) Dance Series at the Ordway are usually fantastic!
