REVIEW: Lady & The Trump

Regardless of your political affiliation, if you’ve been following the news regarding the current election cycle, odds are you are bit “wound up.”  The Brave New Workshop’s latest production, Lady and the Trump, is the therapy everyone needs to unwind.  I never miss a show at the Brave New Workshop.  Their topical sketch comedy always has me laughing, but this show is particularly hilarious.

After the show, a relative of mine asked me to recall one joke I found particularly funny and I couldn’t.  It isn’t a show of one line zingers, it’s comedy sketches funny throughout their entirety, acted out by comedians having a deep understanding of the nuances of their real-life characters.

Two sketches really stood out.  One was a dual-reality vision of what the first night in the White House would be for either Hillary or Donald, featuring the ghosts of presidencies past.  It doesn’t take much imagination to see how Donald meeting the ghost of Abe Lincoln could lead to some entertaining interaction.  The second was a video sketch faux documentary of how Ted Cruz was actually a CGI character performed by a less-than-talented motion capture actor. The faux documentary is the kind of thing that makes me want to plead with the Brave New Workshop to have a YouTube channel so I can share this with all my family and friends who are out of town (and watch it about 5 more times for my own amusement). The CGI skit was comedy brilliance that simply needs to be shared with the world. UPDATE: So they do have a YouTube channel – my bad.

Lady and the Trump is at The Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre through November 5th, 2016. Discount tickets from Goldstar may be available and $10 rush tickets are also offered, when available.
