January 6th is the next cutoff date for discount registration to the Luminary Loppet on Lake of the Isles Saturday, February 1, 2020. At about $23, it’s not inexpensive but it is my opinion that the Luminary Loppet is one of the best events in the Twin Cities!
The Luminary Loppet is hard to describe. It is like going to a movie that airs only one night each year. But unlike a movie it is not a passive experience. Participants ski, snowshoe or walk around Lake of the Isles in order to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Luminary Loppet’s many features: luminaries perfectly spaced around the lake, the Ice Pyramid, Fire Dancers, the Enchanted Forest, Ice-Cropolis, Ice-Henge, and Ice-ster Island. Participants receive cocoa and treats along the way, and are entitled to enjoy the Post-Luminary Party, featuring live music and more. And adult participants receive a free Surly Beer at the Loppet’s Big Tent.
This is a non-competitive event with registration open to snowshoers, walkers and skiers alike and I highly recommend participating.
