Talk of the Stacks: Dessa

It seems like the rapper-poet Dessa is considered Minneapolis royalty so I wanted to make sure you were all aware of this neat event coming up that any Dessa fan would be sure to enjoy!  This Friday, Dessa will be featured at Talk of the Stacks at Minneapolis Central Library.  Talk of the Stacks is a reading series exploring contemporary literature and culture.

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, performer and author, Dessa was born and raised in Minneapolis. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a philosophy degree, her musical talents eventually led her to join the Doomtree collective. Her musical output, including 2013′s Parts of Speech, unites a wide range of tones and narratives under the author’s whip-smart lyricism. Dessa has taught at McNally Smith College of Music, spoken at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, and published a book of poetic prose, Spiral Bound. Her newest literary release, a poetry chapbook, will be published by Rain Taxi in early October. Join Dessa and editor Eric Lorberer as they converse about creating this collection, poems versus lyrics, and more. A special cocktail and signing party open to all attendees will follow the talk.
