Taqueria La Hacienda opened in 1999 when Maria and Miguel Zagal were one of the five food court operators at the opening of the legendary Mercado Central in South Minneapolis. Their goal was to create an authentic Mexican restaurant that provided its customers with a unique, south-of-the-border culinary experience and introduce tacos al pastor to Minnesota. The house special features succulent and flavorful Mexican-style barbecue pork alongside corn tortillas, cilantro, onion and salsa for a simultaneously complex and simple flavor profile. Other favorite options include the loaded burritos bursting with the savory deliciousness of ingredients like beef tongue, charbroiled steak, roast pork or chicken encased in a flour tortilla with rice, beans, onions, cilantro and salsa. Taqueria La Hacienda also features quesadillas, tortas, traditional Mexican sodas and more.

‘Rustic Tart’

It appears Minnapolis is a hot spot for amazing baked goods!  First, Bon Appetit named Rustica Bakery’s baguette one of the best in America and now Departures magazine has named Salty Tart Bakery one of the top bakeries in the world!

Here’s what Departure’s had to say about Salty Tart…

Though it is a risky move to arrive in a new city and set up shop immediately, it paid off for pastry chef Michelle Gayer. After stints at La Brea Bakery in Los Angeles and now-closed Charlie Trotter’s restaurant in Chicago, Gayer opened Salty Tart in 2008 in Minneapolis’s Midtown Global Market. The bakery was an instant hit. Treats range from coconut macaroons to pastry cream–filled brioche to the namesake tarts that shift with the season. Caramelized onions pair with goat cheese in a signature savory version; brown butter and berries make for a sweet treat.
