Minneapolis’ own Brave New Workshop can stake its claim as a true comedy pioneer — this company has been crafting original satirical sketches and creating laughs longer than any other theater in the entire country. And to celebrate that 55-year, 280-show legacy, they’re bringing back some all-time favorites for a best-of comedy revue. Founder Dudley Riggs kicked things off in 1961 with a recurring musical-comedy show that parodied Miss America, and by ’67, BNW was producing edgy topical shows like The Race Riot Revue: Hate Is a Summer Festival and The Lyndon Frolics: Great Fables for the Great Society. They continued skewering the status quo through the rest of the 20th century and beyond, right up to today’s hilarious hit show, Lance Armstrong’s Steroid-Pumped Comedy Revue.Relive the laughs with this greatest-hits extravaganza.

$6 tickets: A Behanding in Spokane

Today only, Goldstar is offering $6 tickets to A Behanding in Spokane, by the Gremlin Theater (Reg. $20).

Gremlin Theatre presents the regional premiere of A Behanding in Spokane, a 2010 comedy from acclaimed Tony and Oscar-nominated playwright and screenwriter Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Beauty Queen of Leenane). It’s the first of his works to be set in the U.S. but retains all of McDonagh’s trademark biting black wit as the Irish playwright peers deep into the madness and absurdity lurking in the heart of America. In it, Carmichael is a gun-carrying killer who’s desperately looking for the missing left hand he somehow lost as a youth. The fun begins when he’s suddenly faced with a nosy hotel clerk and a bickering couple, con artists who figure they’ve put their finger on a way to make some quick cash.

Multiple dates and times are available.  If you miss out on the $6 tickets, Goldstar will probably still have other discount ticket options available.
